1. Arriving in Latvia
If you are a citizen of the European Union (EU) Member State, EEA zone or Switzerland and you have a valid travel document, you can freely enter Latvia without a visa or residence permit!
2. Staying in Latvia
2.1. Staying for up to 3 months
You do not require a visa or residence permit and do not need to register at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs if you plan to stay in Latvia for up to 3 months within half a year of the first day of your arrival in Latvia.
2.2. Staying for over 3 months
You may stay in Latvia for more than 3 months without registration at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs under the following circumstances:
- You reside in Latvia for up to six months per year from the day of your arrival in the country, and the purpose of your residence is to find a job in Latvia;
- You will be studying in Latvia and your studies will not exceed one year;
- You are employed in Latvia but reside in another EU Member State, to which you return at least once per week.
If your situation is different from the instances mentioned above, you must register with the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) to receive a Registration Card (eID Card). More detailed information is available here.
