The exhibition brings together the most important motifs of the artist's creative practice, inviting visitors to explore the boundaries between fact and fiction, objectivity and subjectivity.
Working between Riga and New York, Timofejevs' work has long explored forms of identity, language and communication, revealing their multi-layered and changing nature, as well as different governance structures and mechanisms of communication. Drawing on both personal experience and broader societal processes, his artistic practice often addresses the tension between aspirations for integration and resistance to dominant systems, incorporating autobiographical references.
The exhibition Other Passengers presents Viktors Timofejevs' newly created drawings, paintings, videos and a specially designed soundscape in a single installation, created in collaboration with artist Miša Skalskis (FI/LT). All the elements of the exhibition are arranged in a scenography simulating an indeterminate environment, which gradually reveals the dramaturgy of a micro-environment, embodying the coexistence and collision of two parallel and opposing realities.
The exhibition invites us to reflect on the meaning of the point of view from which we look at different phenomena and how it determines our subsequent reaction and position in time and space.
