Exhibition Sculpture in Porcelain

The exhibition offers an opportunity to get acquainted with less frequently seen works of art from the sculpture collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the collection of the Artists' Union of Latvia and the Riga Porcelain Museum, as well as art treasures owned by the Piebalga Porcelain Factory and private individuals and heirs.

Small-scale sculptures or miniature sculptures – popularly known as figurines – is a well-known genre in porcelain art and industry. Less well known, however, is the fact that the artists behind these works also work with other materials and scales. Medals, portraits, commemorative sculptures and even monuments have been created from rocks such as granite, marble and travertine, from metals such as bronze, aluminium, copper and brass, and from various types of wood.

Presented are works by Aleksandra Briede (1901-1992), Rasma Bruzīte (1919-2001), Georgs Kruglovs (1905-1984), Rimma Pancehovska (1928-2023), Viktorija Pelše (1936), Olga Penerdži (1927-1982), Elfrīda Aldonija Pole-Āboliņa (1921-2010), Margarita Siliņa (1926-2023), Leons Tomašickis (1904-1996), Ēvī Upeniece (1925), Teodors Zaļkalns (1876-1972) and Mārtiņš Zaurs (1915-1998).

From August 16, on display at the Riga Porcelain Museum will also be the latest works of artist Liene Mackus in her solo exhibition Origin, which will be displayed in the museum's windows and accessible to viewers at any time of the day.
