An informative and emotional exhibition - On the Highways and Across the Sea. Second World War. The inhabitants of Latvia leave their homeland. 1944-1945. - reveals the personal stories of the refugees and gives a glimpse of the objects they took with them when they left their homeland.
80 years ago, fleeing the Red Army and fearing Soviet occupation and repression, more than 100,000 Latvians were forced to leave their homes. The refugees crossed the Baltic Sea in boats and ships, or travelled overland on roads and crowded trains to the German Reich or Sweden.
The exhibition is on display in the museum's temporary exhibition hall and in the outdoor space at the museum entrance.
