This concert will be a tribute to Ivars Galenieks, a double bassist and composer who passed away last year and who has been a great influence on Latvian jazz for many years. Ivars’ lush and convincing double bass tone has been heard playing with Frank Foster, Dennis Rowland, the Latvian Radio Big Band, the Egils Straume Trio, the Raimonds Raubiško Trio and other masters.
This concert will feature pieces from Ivars Galenieks’ vinyl record Trans-Siberian Express (Transsibīrijas ekspresis), recorded exactly 40 years ago in 1985 at the Latvian Radio Studio 1.
