For the fourth consecutive year, the Riga Chamber Choir Ave Sol presents a special gift to the people of Riga and its visitors - a free concert titled Christmas Oratorio. This year the concert will feature the French composers Camille Saint-Saëns’ "Christmas Oratorio", as well as works by Latvian composers, including the premiere of a new work by Andrejs Selicks.
C. Saint-Saëns celebrated "Christmas Oratorio" performance will feature Ave Sol’s exceptional soloists: Agate Grīnhofa, Kristīne Freimane, Aleksandra Špicberga, Mārtiņš Zvīgulis, and Artūrs Švarcbahs. The instrumental accompaniment will spotlight the string quartet Sponte, which will be accompanied by contrabassist Toms Timofejevs, harpist Elizabeta Lāce and Vita Kalnciema, organist of the Jesus Church and professor at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA). Conductor Jurģis Cābulis.
In addition to Saint-Saëns’ "Christmas Oratorio", works by Latvian composers will be performed, including "Meditation" by composer and organist Lūcija Garūta, featuring a solo by Vita Kalnciems at the Jesus Church organ, complemented by the voices of Ave Sol choir members. Another highlight will be Andris Dzenītis’ "Prayer", conducted by Andris Veismanis.
The concert will also feature the premiere of a specially commissioned work: Andrejs Selickis’ cycle "Glorification of Christ". This deeply harmonious piece reflects on the time of Christ’s coming and will also be conducted by A. Veismanis.
