International Festival of Contemporary Theater Homo Novus

The 20th International Festival of Contemporary Theater encourages the audience to imagine the border between the possible and the impossible, reality and memory, the space of fantasy and desire. The festival draws attention to themes outside the usual circle and invites us to think about how and why we exist in this world, to realize that we are all interconnected and that the rules of the game can be changed - inviting those who have been on the periphery into the middle.

This year's festival will feature a diverse program of international performances from Italy, Denmark, Czech Republic, Ireland, Canada, Australia, as well as many works by local artists. The audience will be able to see the spectacle of scenography in both urban and outdoor settings, with the performing arts inhabiting cinemas, museum and shop galleries, choir stalls, books, waterfronts and marshland.

Homo Novus 2024 will present a contemporary interpretation of Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring by the Italian dance collective Dewey Dell, a musical collaboration Ode to Joy by Irish artists Amanda Coogan, Lianne Quigley and the Latvian Association of the Deaf, Symphony of Solitude S.O.S. by Katrīna Neiburga and the Danish MOR Collective, Canadian choreographer Dana Michel's performance MIKE, Berlin collective Gob Squad with the legendary Super Night Shot, as well as premieres of new works by Latvian artists Beate Poikāne, Artūrs Čukurs, Reinis Boters, Jānis Balodis and Linda Boļšakova, as well as other events.
