
The exhibition, which tells the story of the early history of the Latvian National Museum of Art, is a tribute to the 120th anniversary of the opening of the museum's main building to the public, and tells the story of the museum's activities under the leadership of its first director, Vilhelms Neimans.
The exposition offers a closer look at the building that was built especially for the purposes of the Riga City Art Museum, its first director and employees, several exhibitions that took place in the museum premises and a selection of works by artists of Latvian and Estonian origin that were then on permanent display in one place, but today are held in six different collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art. The exhibition also includes Wilhelms Neumann's casts for the museum's building and its interiors, historical photographs and various other archival materials.
