Afrobeat is one of the most important musical genres on the African continent, combining African musical traditions with American funk rhythms. One of the most prominent contemporary Afrobeat exponents is ADÉDÈJÌ (Adédèjì Adetayo), a Nigerian guitarist, songwriter and composer who has given the genre a new energy by enriching it with nuances of funk, jazz and soul music.
His latest album "Yoruba Odysse" returns to Adédèjì's roots, combining jazz-funk, Afrobeat and Yoruba eclectic sounds. The ten-track album educates and entertains, spanning styles from soul and jazz to blues, funk and traditional Yoruba music. The album's sound is created by a group of nine musicians - outstanding Nigerian artists, a strong rhythm section, a dynamic brass band and soulful backing vocals that reflect Adédèjì's roots in evangelical music.
