Completing a series of pop-up exhibitions reflecting current developments in Latvian contemporary design, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design (MDAD) in collaboration with Design Export Alliance opens the fourth exhibition Winter.
Just as the seasons sequentially change, the third exhibition in the MDADs' pop-up series The Close up of Design Processes, titled Autumn, is conceptually and thematically replaced by the new exhibition Winter, which concludes the museum's 35th anniversary project.
The Winter exhibition is characterised by colour contrasts - the whiteness of snow and the blackness of charcoal. The exhibition reflects the Latvian serene nature, highlighting monochrome products and compositions that allow to feel the subtleties of materials. Its leitmotif is simplicity, purity and clarity. Also the tone, texture, smell, changing shape and glow of charcoal belong to the Latvian winter.
The exhibition showcases products from fourteen Latvian brands - Kanttari, Studio Sarmīte, an&angel, Vaidava Ceramics, Livette’s Wallpaper, mammalampa, Madara Cosmetics, Mint, Stenders, Aretai, Nordi, Articul (Riga chair factory), PAA Vannas and Baiba Glass -, which contribute to the ambience characteristic of a Latvian winter.
