Jānis Deinats' solo exhibition The First Five Years offers a documentary story of the period before Latvia regained its independence, when changes in society were still in their infancy and the artist's camera captured the disintegrating socialist order.
The title of the exhibition The First Five Years refers to the period from 1989 to 1994, when Jānis Deinats began his work in photography, and ironically also refers to the slogan of economic planning during the Soviet era.
