Latvia - Faroe Islands, UEFA Nations League football match

This will be the debut season for the Latvian national team in UEFA Nations League C, their first UEFA Nations League home game of the new season and their first UEFA competition under head coach Paolo Nicolato.

Earlier this year, the Italian specialist played two test matches with the team in Cyprus, as well as the Baltic Cup tournament in Liepaja, which ended in a 1-0 victory against the Faroe Islands, with Andrejs Cigaņiks scoring the only goal.

The two teams have met six times since 2016, and the competition has always been fierce, with one win and four draws.

Latvia qualified for UEFA Nations League C in the previous cycle, when Moldova, Andorra and Liechtenstein were beaten in League D. The Faroe Islands, meanwhile, were promoted to League C in pre-season, ahead of Latvia in their sub-group, and in their debut season retained their place in the tournament's third tier - despite losing their first two matches, the Faroese remained unbeaten and celebrated victories against both Turkey and Lithuania.

The Latvian national team will return to Skonto Stadium for the first time since the 18 November match against Croatia. The upcoming match will also be significant as it will be the first time that fans will be able to see for themselves the new design of the Latvian national team's shirts, which feature new elements with symbolic meaning.
